Review KIT First Semester Welcome 2018
About 5,100 new students started their studies at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in the winter semester 2018/19. KIT traditionally welcomed them and their families with a festive event: This year, the first semester welcome took place on Friday, October 12, 2018, starting at 6 pm in the Black Forest Hall of the Karlsruhe Congress Center.

After a musical interlude by the KIT Big Band, conducted by Günter Hellstern, the welcome by the Presidential Board "Excellent Research, Teaching, and Innovation - Studying at KIT" was given by the KIT President, Professor Holger Hanselka. In addition, there were greetings from the city of Karlsruhe.

Afterwards, the film "KIT - The Research University in the Helmholtz Association" was presented. The AStA also welcomed the first semester students.

The orientation phases organized by the student councils, in short O-Phases, before the beginning of the semester, also make the start at KIT easier for the first-year students. KIT's more than 90 university groups contribute to the varied campus life - from culture to sports to politics and much more.

For their special commitment in these groups and in the student councils, KIT honored 49 students at the first semester welcome ceremony.

In addition, the Overall Communication Team informed about the digital media of KIT by flyers and posters: On Instagram, YouTube and many more, students can network with KIT and thus receive current information and stories from the campus. The list of channels can be found at www.kit.edu/kit/socialmedia.php.

Various KIT institutions, university groups, and partners provided information at booths about their offers and were available to answer questions.

The KIT Campus Collection was also presented - including T-shirts made of recycled materials, hoodies, and sustainable and practical helpers for studies. All articles are also available at www.kit-shop.de or in the bookshop at Kronenplatz.

A special thanks goes to our sponsors, who contributed to a successful evening with their commitment.
