Dr.-Ing. Jens Fahrenberg, born in 1963, studied electrical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe, where he graduated in 1991. He completed his doctorate in 1994 in the field of microsystems technology at the Karlsruhe Research Center (FZK).
He then worked until 1999 as program manager for microsystems technology at the research center, where he took over as head of the Micro Manufacturing Technology Industry Forum in 2000. In 2002, he was appointed head of the Marketing, Patents, and Licenses (MAP) department in the central management of the FZK.
After the merger of the Research Center and the University of Karlsruhe to form the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in 2009, Jens Fahrenberg took over as head of the central service unit Innovation Management, which is responsible for in the areas of patents, licenses, technology marketing, and start-ups and investments, and has implemented additional instruments such as the KIT Business Club and the KIT High-Tech Incubator in recent years.
Since January 2017, Jens Fahrenberg is heading the Innovation and Relations Management Office (IRM) with around 100 employees, which, in addition to the before mentioned aspects of technology transfer, also covers the areas of career services, alumni, fundraising, and foundations.
In addition, he had various tasks and functions in the regional and national environment.Among other things, he was managing director of KIT Innovation gGmbH, was involved in various functions at the Helmholtz Association and was member of the board of Transferallianz e.V., the German Association for Knowledge and Technology Transfer (in 2019 and 2020 as chairman of the board).
