Under the motto "Effective at KIT", the Open Day of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) was held on June 24, 2017, on the North Campus in Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen.

The most accurate scale in the world, the largest solar storage park in Germany and the coolest refrigerator in Karlsruhe. A computer that calculates super fast, a chamber in which you can make clouds, and a simulator with which you can try out driving an electric car. These and many other research facilities and projects were presented by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) at the open day. 35,000 visitors experienced the entire spectrum of KIT research in 180 tours, experiments, popular science lectures, and exhibitions at more than 50 locations on Campus North.

During the open day, visitors discovered the diverse research of KIT in the fields of energy, mobility, information, materials and technologies, climate and environment, and particle physics in spectacular research facilities as well as in descriptive experiments, demonstrations, and tours.

In addition, student university groups and many other KIT facilities presented their manifold activities as well as sponsors and partners. Last but not least, KIT presented itself as an attractive place of study and employer and provided information, among other things, about studies, training, and lifelong learning.

In the afternoon, President Professor Holger Hanselka and the Lord Mayor of Karlsruhe, Dr. Frank Mentrup, jointly opened the EFFEKTE science festival, which until July 2 offers further activities of Karlsruhe's science institutions to participate and experience. The KIT is also represented with further contributions.
